Small Daisies

I don't know if anyone actually checks this blog, but thought I'd post my one small painting of late. I did one similar to this at some workshops over the summer. Of course, I haven't managed to finish any of the workshop paintings yet, so have not posted them! The instructor liked my variation in color, but suggested I make the petal edges more varied. So I tried that here, but see that I could work on that a bit more!

I've been swamped with other water-related work. Also, Ted is cracking the whip on our last room. We are working on the "Scary Room" and it is hopefully going to be a studio for me and Ted as well! Any suggenstions on lighting or other studio needs would be great!

My sister and Max were here for a nice visit (courtesy of Bonnie and Bob). Pictures are on http://www.maxyoakum.com/

9" x 12"
Squam Lake was great and Ted caught 15 Bass while I did 2.5 Plein Air paintings. This was the view from our cabin's porch.

6" x 7"
I sat on a dock and painted these rocks while he paddled around the corner and fished. I took lots of pictures so will hopefully get time to do some more practicing. I have to say that I am pretty happy with these. In my first Plein Air attempt in Calistoga, I tried to include too much and it was awful! So here I was more selective in what to include.

Lake Winnipesaukee September 2006
5" x 7"
Well, I've been a little busy...But in preparation for a trip to Squam Lake I thought I'd better try painting a lake scene. I like how this turned out, although it doesn't look very good on the computer.
We are taking the canoe so I am going to try to paint while Ted fishes. Hopefully we don't tip over (again).

Tiny Barn in the Snow

I saw this little barn and tried to paint it from memory. I am wondering if I need to add anything, like a fence or hedge, because all of the color is in that one area with the barn and tree. But I do like to see the snow in the foreground.

This is our old apple tree after a fresh dusting of snow.
I need to work on the deciduous trees in the background,
but Ted likes the evergreens and the snow (of course!).
6.5 in x 7.75 in

Marina & Frances

These are my beautiful chickens out in the driveway with their big, fluffy cheeks. Marina is a very tall chicken and Frances is a bantam, so they are a funny pair!

Approx. 4.5 in x 6.5 in.

Berkeley Aloe 1 & 4

Berkeley Aloe 2 & 3

These are about 4.5 in x 6.5 in. This is a house Marina, David and I saw while walking in Berkeley. There is a HUGE aloe plant hanging over the wall in front of this cute house (my dream house). I also painted this 4 times. It helps me to have some test paintings as I go. Please let me know what you like and don't like about these! I have sketched a larger one and so feedback about these will help me when I go to paint the larger one.
