Berkeley Aloe 1 & 4

Berkeley Aloe 2 & 3

These are about 4.5 in x 6.5 in. This is a house Marina, David and I saw while walking in Berkeley. There is a HUGE aloe plant hanging over the wall in front of this cute house (my dream house). I also painted this 4 times. It helps me to have some test paintings as I go. Please let me know what you like and don't like about these! I have sketched a larger one and so feedback about these will help me when I go to paint the larger one.

this is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing. I love what you've done so far and I can't wait to see more. How great that you can embrace mistakes and just make lots of paintings. I think it makes your work that much stronger! PS. I like how you shifted the composition in the top set, and I think the black shadows & "highlights" really make the plant pop in the upper left and the house pop in the upper right. Rock on!

Hey Lisa,
Fabulous paintings--thanks for sharing.

I like the aloe in #1 (the foliage looks natural and seems to have best depth with the contrasting greens). i like the size and shape of the house in #3--seems a bit too wide in #4, and you can't see as much of the sky beside it.

Good luck with your larger version

These have so much heart! I love the way you handled the roof. And I can feel the sunshine. I like the aloe leaves in #1. The darker accents define the plant really well and give it depth. I love the flower swords in #3. The way they move is very exciting. I like the overall composition of #3. You have a very good eye.
